The right speed for the bandwidth you need

Many households have more than 10 internet connected devices running at one time. As a result, each device must share the available bandwidth, which could impact your speed. Luckily, with a gig speed fiber connection, you get the same fast speed up as you do down. Access as much as 20x more data than some traditional 50 Mbps cable connections, so everyone can work, learn, stream and play online without skipping a beat.

Check your network speed

Speed tests are a great way to ensure you’re getting the gig speed you expect. With gig speed, you should see about 940 Mbps upload and download from a wired connection as your router will use some bandwidth. Wired speeds and measured speeds will vary.

For the most accurate results, we recommend you check for the following:

  • Make sure you’re using the most current browser.
  • Connect your computer directly to the router using an ethernet cable.
  • Disconnect from any Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
  • Make sure no other device is connected to your internet during the test.
  • Shut down video or music streaming apps during the test.

Download the free Speedtest® desktop app for the best way to check your network speed.

How to optimize your internet performance

Check your internet connection

Check your connection

Make sure you’re connecting your device directly to your router using an ethernet cable and make sure your router is up to date. Newer routers are optimized to run faster, and you’ll get a stronger connection.

Check your browser and device specifications

Whether you use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge to browse the internet, check that you’re using the most up-to-date version to get the most from your fiber internet.

For optimal performance, your devices should meet these recommended specifications.

Consider your WiFi connection

To get the best possible WiFi signal, place your router in a central location where you use WiFi most, and away from physical obstructions and other devices that may interfere with the signal.

Fiber installation process

There are two steps to delivering fiber to your home:

  1. Fiber is brought to your property line.
  2. Fiber is connected to your home.

In many cases, your installation can be completed in a single visit. However, if fiber is brand new to your property, a second visit may be required resulting in your installation taking more time.
We understand that this can be an inconvenience, but we promise, you'll love your fast fiber internet speeds.
