Before changing the name and password for your home network, it’s a good idea to note all of the devices you want connected to WiFi (such as phones, computers, tablets, televisions, and any smart devices). After completing the following steps you’ll need to reconnect your devices using the new network name and password.
- On a device connected to your network, log in to your Ziply Fiber router to access its settings. (You can also log in to your router by entering 192.168.254.254 in the address bar of an open browser.) Note: The settings link and URL address in this step will only work if you have a router/modem provided by Ziply Fiber. Be sure your router is plugged in and powered on before beginning.
- User name: admin
- Password: 10-digit Device Access Code located on the bar-code sticker affixed to the bottom of your router.
- Open Wireless settings. (This section may be displayed alternatively as Wireless Controller or Basic Settings 2.4Ghz/5Ghz.)
- In the Network Name/SSID field enter the new name for your home network.
- In the Password field enter a new password of your choice. A strong password typically contains at least eight characters and includes a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Click Apply to save your changes.
All devices that were previously connected are now offline and will need to be reconnected to your home network with the new name and password.
Some routers require a reboot to complete the process. If prompted, restart your router by turning it off for about thirty seconds and turning it back on.
Forgotten WiFi name & password
If you’re unable to access your home network due to lost or forgotten login credentials, resetting the device will erase its current settings and return the router to the original factory settings printed on the sticker. See steps for performing a factory reset.
