During power outages a battery backup keeps your Ziply Fiber equipment connected.
An illuminated green light on the power supply of your backup battery indicates that it's receiving a charge.
Beeping battery
If your backup battery is intermittently beeping, follow these steps to determine if it needs to be replaced:
- Remove the cables connected to the backup battery unit (BBU).
- Unplug it from the power outlet.
- Wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
- If the beeping resumes, it means the unit is not charging properly. Find replacements at cpeportal.com/ziply.
- If the battery backup has stopped beeping, firmly re-attach the cables.

Connect a backup battery unit
The Y cables included with a backup battery unit allow your equipment to use normal power when it’s available and automatically switch to battery power during an outage.
Note: If your ONT and router are not in the same area, you may need two backup battery units, one for the ONT and another for the router.
- Plug the backup battery unit into a wall outlet.
- Disconnect the existing power cord from your ONT. (This piece of equipment may be in a cabinet or garage.)
- Replace the power cord with a Y cable.
- One end plugs into the ONT.
- One end goes into the backup battery unit.
- The other plug goes into the wall outlet.
- To maintain WiFi connectivity during a power outage, repeat the same steps for your router.

Important 911 information
It is your responsibility to maintain a backup battery for accessing 911 emergency services in the event of a power outage. If the battery is drained or missing, voice service will not work if the power is out.
- When fully charged the backup unit powers your Ziply Fiber Home Phone service for up to eight hours during a power outage.
- If you have a home alarm or medical-monitoring system, check with your provider(s) to ensure compatibility with Ziply Fiber Home Phone VoIP service. If your home-alarm or medical-monitoring system is not compatible, consider adding a traditional phone line to support it.
