In a seemingly endless and anonymous world of internet companies, how do you know which one to choose? It can feel like going to buy a car from a dealership with hundreds of makes and models and no information about which one really works.

You should be an informed consumer and not resigned to whatever internet service provider (ISP) happens to be in your area. ISPs need to work for you. Now that we’re in year five of providing fast, reliable fiber internet to Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, we wanted to take a minute to share some things about our service and how we work to keep you online, all the time.

A brief history of Ziply Fiber

Ziply Fiber launched in the spring of 2020, right at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, in Kirkland, WA. Our CEO, Harold Zeitz, a veteran of the internet industry in the Northwest, and his equally experienced team took over a four-state territory from telecommunications company Frontier and started to rebuild the old copper network with state-of-the-art fiber-optics lines. Their goal was to bring the fastest possible internet and the best possible customer service to Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

Within just four years, Ziply Fiber had achieved the status of fastest home internet in America, with the launch of 50 Gig home internet service. Hundreds of miles of fiber lines have been put down, reaching dozens of new cities and towns, some of which had never had reliable internet service before.

Fiber infrastructure: the future-proof solution

For a long time, copper was the main conductor of internet communication. The use of copper as a communication tool actually goes all the way back to the first transatlantic cable.

Fiber is not exactly new, but it wasn’t until fairly recently that scientists discovered how to use it for everyday communication. Fiber-optic technology, which uses light pulses rather than electrical pulses, was found to be highly efficient at data transmission but unable to travel long distances. After that problem was solved, fiber was used for “industrial strength” communication. It was too robust for daily use.

That has changed. Fiber is now the gold standard for residential internet use – but it’s still hard to come by in many places, as the infrastructure can take time and money to build.

Ziply Fiber invested hundreds of millions of dollars in building out this infrastructure, and we continue to work with local governments to get more places connected.

The benefits of fiber internet for home and business

Why is fiber better than cable? Symmetrical speed, reliability, durability and low latency – these are just a few reasons why fiber is a superior technology. Symmetrical speed, which means equally fast upload and download speeds, leads to faster connectivity and fewer buffering wheels. Cable has slower upload speeds by nature due to the one-way relationship of cable television to the home.

Fiber also operates directly to the home, while cable connections are shared across several homes. This means less network congestion during peak usage times, like after work and school.

Ziply Fiber’s symmetrical speed tiers start at 100 Mbps and go all the way up to 50 Gig (that’s 50,000 Mbps!). Most connected households will be happy with the Fiber Gig plan, which provisions one gigabit of speed (or 1,000 Mbps). We also keep network traffic under capacity, meaning that there is always extra bandwidth, so your data doesn’t get stuck in a virtual “traffic jam.” Visualize your data speeding to and from your device and the internet in its own lane on the highway.

This is all taken to the next level when it comes to our Enterprise division. Small businesses all the way to large tech companies and medical and financial institutions can benefit from our Ethernet, wide area networking, VoIP and colocation/data center solutions. Our Enterprise offerings all run on our 100% fiber, 100% local, redundant and below-capacity 100+ Gig network.

Fiber internet plans are competitively priced and affordable

At Ziply Fiber, we believe in making the best possible connected experience as accessible as possible. Fiber internet plans start as low as $20/month, and we never lock you into a contract, so you can cancel anytime.

On our broadband nutrition label, you’ll see that we don’t sneak in junk fees. Compare that to a major cable internet company, and you’ll immediately spot the differences: we have faster symmetrical speeds, no hidden costs and no data caps – so you won’t get charged for overuse. We don’t require credit checks, either.

A refreshingly great customer experience

We consistently work toward improvement by ensuring our technicians and our customer service reps provide the best possible service.

Here’s what Michael in Hayden, ID, has to say:
“Ziply Fiber answers the phone, shows up when they say they will show up, the install process was a piece of cake, our technicians have all been super nice and knowledgeable, and the price we are paying for the fastest internet we've ever had is the cheapest we've ever had. Ziply rocks!”
