Let's check for the simplest problems first.

You have a computer connected to your modem by an Ethernet cable, and the computer can’t connect you to the internet.

Make sure:

  1. The modem is plugged directly into a working electrical wall outlet (not a power strip) and the power cord is connected securely on both ends.
  2. A phone cord is connected securely to the back of your modem on one end and a working telephone wall jack on the other.
  3. The Ethernet cable is connected securely to the computer and the modem.
