Ziply™ Fiber’s ultra-high-speed fiber-optic internet network launches in Sedro-Woolley
Hundreds of residences and businesses will have immediate access to gig-speed fiber internet, streaming TV, and phone services; Ziply to continue building area’s fastest residential internet
Kirkland, Wash. (October 13, 2021) – Ziply™ Fiber’s ultra-high-speed, 100-percent fiber-optic network is ready for service in Sedro-Woolley. The company built and this week enabled “Gig-speed” or Gigabit fiber connectivity to the first 600 residences and businesses to which it plans to offer service, giving area residents access to Ziply’s ultra-fast fiber Internet, streaming TV, and phone services for the first time.
The company will continue its work building the fastest residential internet available in Sedro-Woolley over the next several weeks and into 2022. By the time its investment in the area is complete, Ziply Fiber will have built fiber connectivity to more than 2,000 locations.
Originally, there was potential for public dollars to be spent on a fiber build-out in Sedro-Woolley, but after learning that Ziply was planning to build its own fiber network in the community, those public funds were re-deployed towards other community priorities.
With no data caps and no annual contracts for residential users, Ziply Fiber’s service launch comes at a time when more and more families and businesses are looking for fast and reliable internet to support the online needs of daily life in today’s world. The work in Sedro-Woolley is part of Ziply Fiber’s commitment to invest $500 million over the next two to three years to build an advanced, 100-percent fiber network to both suburban and rural communities across the Northwest that have been underserved when it comes to internet access. The company has been actively building fiber across the Northwest since June 2020 and has plans to build and deploy new fiber-optic cables, local hubs, new offices, and new hardware to run the network as part of hundreds of additional projects across its 250,000-square-mile footprint.
As Ziply Fiber continues its rollout of fiber-based services across the region over the next several months and years, its Ziply Internet (DSL) customers also will begin seeing service improvements. Part of Ziply Fiber’s investment is going to work that’s well underway to improve its core and aggregation network, across which all Ziply Internet traffic travels. While there’s still more work to be done, by improving the quality, capacity, and reliability of those critical network components, customers of all types of services will benefit.
